Lenten Devotions
Friday, February 15
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
So, how is your Lent going? Maybe you have a nice course of spiritual practice laid out for yourself. Are you feeling pleased with yourself? More loving of God? Guilty? Maybe you have barely thought of Lent. Have you thought about the opportunities you may be missing?
This season of the Church year is an invitation to growth and renewal. “Lent” actually comes from the word for “springtime,” and as cold as it’s been, it’s rather lovely to think ahead to the green buds of spring. Where would it be lovely to have some new growth in your life? What could you do to encourage it, to make the soil ready? And, don’t forget to pray, for it is the Living God who will make you grow.
Ideas for Practices:
- Fast during lunch and give the cost of lunch to our SOS Food pantry or the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
- Get up 10 minutes early each day to read a bible verse, pray the Lord’s Prayer, and seek God.
- Commit yourself to that act of service you have been thinking about doing.
- Pray when you read the newspaper.
- Pray every day at the same time for a person who has wounded you.
- Write a letter of honest apology to someone you have wronged. Ask for forgiveness.
- Without telling anyone, choose someone in the church for whom you will pray every day.
- Begin journaling to try to listen better to the Holy Spirit at work within you.
- Begin regularly visiting someone you know who is lonely. No matter how you feel.
- Invite someone over and give him or her the gift of gracious hospitality.
