Lenten Devotions
Saturday, February 16
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119: 105
Do you believe this? Do you believe that by reading and praying the scriptures you will find the Word of God in and through those words? Do the words of the Bible have force in your life? Might those words help you to find your way?
Sometimes we begin to read a book in the bible and we don’t fully understand or we don’t really agree or our eyes just pass over the page without engaging our hearts. It doesn’t have to be that way. Find someone to help you find a way in to the bible if that is what you need. Join a bible study group. Ask someone you respect at church to read with you. Do whatever it takes not to miss out on all the experiences of God you might find within these pages.
Pray and ask God to ease your heart of expectations that block your real experience of reading these life-giving texts. Start with the psalms or a gospel. Read with an open, loving heart and see what happens.
A Practice:
Have you ever thought about reading and praying the scriptures before you hear the sermon? Tracy almost always preaches from the lectionary, so you can go to www.pcusa.org and hit the sidebar “Devotions and Readings ” link and go to the lectionary. She’ll use at least one of the four scriptures listed for that Sunday.
The texts for tomorrow are Romans 12: 1-4a and Genesis 12: 1-5, 13-17. Tracy’s sermon title is “An Alignment.” When you’re studying the texts, remember to say a prayer for her.
For more information or to continue the conversation, write to Katie at katherinekinnison@covenantpcusa.org.
