Lenten Devotions
Tuesday, March 11
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12: 2
Think of all the information and ideas and reports from our senses that flood through our minds each day. Have you ever tried to imagine what your mind would like if someone were to paint it? A tranquil, early Monet’s Japanese garden or a passionately stroked Van Gogh or maybe something by Jackson Pollack? Maybe our minds are art galleries where all these things hang…
What do you suppose Paul meant by these words he penned to the Christians in Rome, and more to the point, what might they mean for us?
How much do we allow God to put into our minds? Do we ask the Spirit of the Living God to whisper to us throughout our days? Do we ask for God’s responses to the things we think? Do we ever really wonder what Jesus would do in response to the situations in which we find ourselves? What would Jesus have us do?
Prayer is a really good place to begin if we want our minds renewed. The Word of God could fill our minds with so much about what it means to live as God’s holy and chosen people—if we only read it, not only read it, but digested it, savored it.
A Spiritual Practice
Try praying this several times today. It’s a prayer by Amy Carmichael who lived and worked in idea during the beginning of the 20th century:
“Holy Spirit, think through me till your ideas are my ideas. Amen.”
See what happens.
